Reading: Complete the "first idea" exercise on page 121. Then
study the article "Sociolinguistic Rules of Speaking" on pages 122-124 of the handout and follow the instructions in the margins as you read (don't worry about the first one; we'll discuss it in class). Then do the exercises on pages 124-126.
